چکیده
Front cover: In article 2200704 by Dmitrii Rusakov, Angelika Menner, and Alexander Bismarck, a high-temperature process with two high boiling point solvents allows to successfully create porous poly(ether ketone ketone) (PEKK) tunable properties, making it promising material for biomedical applications. The achieved porosities of 70 90%, specific surface areas up 194 m2 g−1, adjustable elastic moduli from 35 100 MPa allow tailored solutions needs.

Reconstruction of frontal bone using specific implant polyether-ether-ketone.
Defects on the craniofacial complex may result in aesthetic defects, functional damage, and psychologic consequences. Previously, surgeons showed no interest in reconstructing the operated area, but in the treatment of the problem, leaving bone contour is a secondary issue. Nowadays, area reconstruction with post-reestablishment of contour and local shape has become one of the surgeon's priorit...
متن کاملLocal deformation behavior of surface porous polyether-ether-ketone.
Surface porous polyether-ether-ketone has the ability to maintain the tensile monotonic and cyclic strength necessary for many load bearing orthopedic applications while providing a surface that facilitates bone ingrowth; however, the relevant deformation behavior of the pore architecture in response to various loading conditions is not yet fully characterized or understood. The focus of this s...
متن کاملAn Automated Solid Phase Extraction Polyether-ether Ketone Microfluidic Device: Influence of Sorbent Packing
The work presented here aims at developing a microfluidic device for automated sample enrichment of water samples. The device is optimized for the analysis of small organic pollutants by biosensing and environmental monitoring applications. Miniaturization and automation of solid phase extraction with our device enabled us to reduce the volume of sample and of eluent significantly, resulting in...
متن کاملHigh-strength, surface-porous polyether-ether-ketone for load-bearing orthopedic implants.
Despite its widespread clinical use in load-bearing orthopedic implants, polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) is often associated with poor osseointegration. In this study, a surface-porous PEEK material (PEEK-SP) was created using a melt extrusion technique. The porous layer was 399.6±63.3 μm thick and possessed a mean pore size of 279.9±31.6 μm, strut spacing of 186.8±55.5 μm, porosity of 67.3±3.1% ...
متن کاملThe boron-mediated ketone-ketone aldol reaction
The first examples of the directed, boron-mediated aldol reaction between different ketones are presented. Transformation of a variety of ketones to their corresponding boron enolates with Chx2BCl/Et3N, followed by reaction with acceptor ketones in diethyl ether, and oxidation of the resultant boron aldolate (H2O2, MeOH/pH 7 buffer), provided the aldol addition products. The reaction was most f...
